SITE PERFORMANCE
THE PROBLEM
After ten years, the AFPUK website had become a liability rather than an asset. It was slow, visually cluttered, and difficult to manage across a team of multiple contributors — a real operational problem for an activist organisation that depends on fast, collective publishing.
THE SOLUTION
A full WordPress overhaul, built around the team’s actual workflow. The visual language shifted from a dense thumbnail grid to a bolder, editorial layout with a stronger homepage and clearer navigation. The site was migrated to green hosting, and the entire build was optimised for speed and low carbon output.
THE OUTCOME

A full rebuild prioritising the work itself. Large, confident visuals with a clean editorial structure, interactive elements, minimal data footprint and green hosting. Built to load fast and feel considered.

THE PROBLEM
The existing site had a paralax effect that was causing serious performance issues on mobile. For a project space whose artists and visitors are primarily on their phones, a site that would not load properly was simply not doing its job.
THE SOLUTION
A careful refresh rather than a full rebuild. The same raw, unpretentious visual identity was kept intact, the five years of exhibition archive restructured into a clean year-by-year layout, and everything slowing the site down stripped out. Migrated to green hosting throughout.
